Recommendation Guidance

You must have two recommendations submitted as part of the application process, as follows:

  • Academic recommendation: This recommendation should come from a faculty member who has taught you at Emory/Oxford.  A recommendation from an adjunct faculty member or graduate student is acceptable.  The recommender will be asked to complete a rubric providing us with their appraisal of you relative to your peer group across a variety of criteria, including but not limited to analytical ability, classroom contribution, communication skills, ability to work with others, and motivation. They may opt to attach a letter containing additional feedback.
  • Service recommendation: This recommendation should come from a group leader (this is likely to be another student), coach, or on-campus supervisor.  Do not request a recommendation from an off-campus supervisor, including summer internship supervisors.  The recommender will be asked to complete a rubric providing us with their appraisal of you relative to your peer group across a variety of criteria, including but not limited to time management, organizational ability, reliability, contributions to the organization, and ability to work with others.  They may opt to attach a letter containing additional feedback.
You will enter your recommenders' names and contact information into the online application.  This will generate a link that will be sent to them so that they can fill out a recommendation form online that will be connected with your application.  They will have the option to add comments and/or attach a letter if desired.
