Name on Your Diploma
The student's name will appear on the diploma as it does in his/her record in OPUS unless he/she takes the following steps to change it.
The student must complete the N.Name Change.pdf and bring it to the Emory University Registrar’s Office (Room 100, B. Jones Building).
Students requesting the following changes only need to submit the name change form to the University Registrar's Office. No supporting documentation is required:
- Add an accent mark
- Change middle name from an initial to a name starting with that initial
- Change middle name from an actual name to the first initial of that name
Students requesting any other type of name change must go to the University Registrar's Office and present the completed name change form, along with a photo ID PLUS one of the following showing the changed name:
- Marriage License, or
- Court Order, or
- Driver's license showing the new name PLUS one of the following also showing the new name: social security card, credit card, or bank check.
Update your mailing address on OPUS.
Meet the requirements for graduation. Check with the Goizueta Registrar's Office in room W412 if you have any questions about meeting graduation requirements. If you activated FERPA (privacy rights), your name will not appear in the graduation programs and your graduation can not be verified. If you would like to change your FERPA status, please contact the Registrar's Office.
File your Degree Application
All students must file a degree application to graduate. These should be completed and submitted in OPUS by the degree application deadline. Students who do not meet the deadline must submit hard copy of the degree application into the Registrar's Office (room W412) with a late fee payment of $25.
Participants are required to wear academic costume at the Baccalaureate Service (for BBAs) and Commencement (BBAs, MPAs, Evening MBAs, Full-time MBAs, Executive MBAs). For BBAs, this includes the cap, tassel and gown. For all masters level students, this includes cap, tassel, gown and hood. These can be purchased from the Emory University Bookstore. During the graduation ceremony, the tassel is worn on the right front corner of the cap and is moved to the left after the degree has been conferred.
There will be a special display and representatives to answer questions at the "Graduation Salute," in late February. In addition to academic regalia, there will be information on personalized announcements, class rings, and diploma frames. More information about the announcements (which have the student's name printed, degree, academic major and are embossed with the University seal) are available at www.jostens.com or by phone at 1.800.854.7464.
Undergraduate students and families will receive invitations to the graduation celebration and awards ceremony (see Schedule for details). Only the student will get an invitation with a reply card. Please fill that out for your family and include yourself on the count. Printed invitations for commencement can be ordered through the Emory University Bookstore.
There are no tickets required for any of the Goizueta ceremonies. If you are attending a college sponsored event, please check the University Commencement information to see if tickets or reservations are required.
Special Seating for Guests with limited mobility
If you have guests who need special seating (easy access, no steps) or wheelchair seating, you must fill out the Special Seating request form before the early April deadline. Two passes admitting the guest and one accompanying person to a special seating area will be mailed after that date.
There will be a designated area during the Main Ceremony on the Quad and during the Diploma Ceremony in the Woodruff PE Center. Ask an Usher to direct you to the appropriate area. If your guest prefers to be indoors: For the Main Ceremony, there will be a video broadcast in White Hall, which is air-conditioned. The Diploma Ceremony will be webcast (link to the webcast from the Goizueta homepage). The webcast also can be viewed from the Goizueta Auditorium.
Requests postmarked after the deadline and telephone requests cannot be honored.
Baccalaureate Service (for BBAs)
Please check the University website for update Baccalaureate information. The Baccalaureate service (see Event Schedule) is for all students receiving bachelor's degrees (BA,BS,BSN, BBA).
Commencement Ceremony Attendance
All graduates are required to attend the Commencement Ceremony to receive their diplomas. If you are not attending, you must request permission by completing the Graduation in Absentia form.
